GP Partners

Our GP Partners have overall responsibility for the clinical and management aspects of the practice. They all care deeply about continuity of care and ensuring the best outcomes for our patients.

DR NIGHAT SULTAN

BSc (hons), MB BS, MRCGP, DRCOG, DSRH

(F) I qualified in 1996 (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and I have worked in Leeds practices (Rothwell, Swillington and Middleton (2003-2014)). Since 2015 I have been a GP Partner at Moorfield House Surgery and have special interests in Women’s health, Family Planning, mental health and Safeguarding. Moorfield House Surgery has been championing how general practice can play a more active role in identifying and helping patients suffering domestic abuse both locally and nationally. The work at the practice has been recognised - being a finalist at the prestigious national annual British Medical Journal (BMJ) Awards (2017) and locally under the Quality and Safety category won the "Lets Celebrate Success Award" (2016). DR ELIZABETH GARMAN

GP Partner (F) BSc (hons), MBChB, MRCGP I started out by studying pharmacology in Liverpool then moved to London to work in clinical trials before I realised that I wanted to become a doctor. I did my initial medical training in Birmingham before moving back home to Yorkshire to complete my GP training. My particular interests are palliative care, sexual health and lifestyle medicine. In my spare time I love getting outdoors with my family, exercising, reading and baking.

DR JANE OWENS

MBChB (Hons), MSc, MRCGP, DRCOG

MBChB (Hons), MSc, MRCGP, DRCOG (F) I completed my medical studies and postgraduate training at the University of Liverpool and the surrounding Merseyside Region. During university I also completed a Masters Degree at the University of Manchester in Healthcare Ethics and Law. I started working at Moorfield House Surgery in January 2020 and became a GP Partner in October 2022. My roles at the practice include providing knee and shoulder steroid joint injections, looking after patients and their families with Learning Disabilities, lead in Cancer care, lead clinician for St Armand’s Care Home, education lead – particularly training nursing students undertaking their Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice and practice prescribing lead. In my spare time I enjoy running, walking and have a small allotment.

DR BETHANY WHITAKER

GP (F) I graduated from Hull York Medical School and completed my training in Leeds. I took a year out working in Obs and Gynae but also took some time to travel to New Zealand. As well as travelling I enjoy hiking and making things, whether it is DIY, sewing or other crafts I will give things a go.

DR THOMAS HALEY

MBBS, MRCGP (M) I completed my medical degree with Newcastle University in 2013 and enjoyed living in the North East during my junior doctor posts and GP training. I have worked as a GP since 2020, and recently moved to Yorkshire to be closer to family and enjoy all that this county has to offer. My family and I love the outdoors and you’ll often find us on long walks in the countryside. Having previously been a keen sportsman in football and cricket, I am now more than happy being a spectator.

Nurses

Our nurses are very experienced and have undergone additional training to offer specialist appointments for patients with chronic conditions such as Asthma, COPD, Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease.

NATALIE STOCKDALE

(F) I graduated from the University of Leeds with BSc degree in Adult Nursing with focus on the community and primary care pathway in my third year. After qualifying I joined the neighbourhood teams as a community nurse, specialising in wound care, palliative care and general assessment of people in the community. I have since been fortunate to join the lovely teams at Moorfield House and New Cross Surgery in general practice and concentrating my efforts on chronic disease management. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Healthcare Assistants

Our HCAs are friendly and caring. They provide a variety of services including taking blood and reviewing long term conditions.

LISA DOWD

(F) I started at Moorfield House October 2013 Phlebotomy Trained 2006 NVQ Level 3 - Healthcare - 2009 HCA Level 4 Primary Care course- 2017 Additional training to administer vaccines 2016 Wound care course 2016 In my spare time I like going to the gym, running, travelling and spending time with my family.

TRACEY DURNELL

(F) I have been a Health Care Assistant for 10 years, gaining level 4 cert HE primary care healthcare assistant qualification in 2012. I have an interest in respiratory, unpaid carers and personalised care which also ties in with overall patient health and well-being. As an advanced HCA I am also qualified to syringe ears.

EMMY WILLIAMS

(F) I have 10 years’ experience working in the hospital on many different speciality wards, but mainly the hepatorenal (liver Transplant ward) and 3 years at the surgery as a healthcare assistant. I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my young family. I love my job and care for my patients.

Practice Business Management

Responsible for the management of the practice under the direction of the GP Partners.

ADRIAN BROWNLOW

Practice Business Manager (M) MBA, Cert Ed After a long career including strategic management roles in both the private and public sector, I joined Moorfield House as Practice Business Manager at the end of 2020. I hold responsibility for the ongoing performance and sustainability of the practice. I am committed to ensuring the caring culture of the practice and to playing our part in addressing health inequalities in the area. Much of my spare time is taken up by my dogs, smallholding and painting (mostly landscape), but I am also a keen DIYer, amateur mechanic and reader.

VANESSA SHAW

Assistant Practice Manager (F) I have worked at the surgery since September 2004. I started as Receptionist/Dispenser and in 2009 I changed my role to Practice Administrator and my current role is Senior Administrator. I look after referrals, the recall of patients to maintain their wellbeing. I assist the Practice Manager with some of the day to day running of the surgery. I have an NVQ level 2 in dispensing. In my spare time I enjoy running, going to the gym, reading and eating out. I am also a volunteer for Kippax Parish Council.

Administration

Our experienced and friendly Administration Team are responsible for patient recalls for the numerous annual and six monthly health checks, recalling patients for smear tests and childhood immunisations. They also ensure that when any new patient joins the practice, that their medical records are received. They also deal with NHS and private referral letters to the hospital and dealing with queries concerning medical reports. If you have a query about a referral, please give them a call.

ALISON NEWBITT

Administrator (F) I have worked here now for 11 years as a Practice Administrator / Receptionist. I enjoy working as a team to ensure all daily duties are carried out, communicate key tasks with each other and manage the daily workload. Every day is different, I strive on providing a good service to the patients and colleagues and been able to help/assist them.

HAYLEY DAVIS

(F) I have worked at the practice since 2008. I started out in General Practice as a Receptionist and then became part of the Admin Team. My main role within the Practice is HR Management and looking after the GP rota. I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of my role and the variety and challenges that working in General Practice brings. We have such a great team and I feel privileged to be part of it.

AMANDA COCKERHAM

Prescription Clerk (F) I started at the practice in 2013 as a Receptionist. I am currently the Prescription clerk and have been in this role for the past 5 years. I work alongside a fantastic team of admin and clinical staff. I thoroughly enjoy the challenges this role can bring and being able to help our patients brings me great job satisfaction.

KATRINA FORAN

(F) I started working at the practice nine years ago as medical secretary and now provide the secretarial duties for both sites. My job can be different from day to day with each patient having different needs. A lot of my role involves corresponding with Wakefield and Leeds Hospitals as well as community clinics. I also communicate with a wide range of patient enquiries. I thoroughly enjoy working as part of a brilliant team for the NHS.

Reception

Our reception team are responsible for ensuring that you obtain access to the services we offer. Anything you tell them will be dealt with in absolute confidence. If you are unsure whether to consult a doctor, nurse or health visitor, etc. our friendly and experienced receptionists will be able to advise you. If you require to speak with the receptionist in confidence, please let us know and we will arrange this.

(F) I have been here 10 years. I started as dispenser at Aberford (qualification NVQ2 in dispensing) and then did research admin for trials at MHS. I have been a prescription clerk for last 8 months.

SARAH JAKEMAN

(F) I have worked in reception for almost 8 years but I have worked in customer service all my working life. I really enjoy the patient contact side of my role, either over the phone or face to face. During my free time I enjoy running.
